Karlovačko – the veteran of the four rivers

Today, let us move to the middle of Croatian land, by the four rivers: Korana, Kupa, Mrežnika, and Dobra. These waters can be all found in the town of Karlovac. Can you guess what all these freshwaters might be used for?

You’re damn right, beer. This is no joke, considering that Croatia’s most popular and tasty beer originates from here, and it is not only popular among Croatians, but the Bosnians love it as well!

Karlovačko is the town’s local beer, and its factory has been functioning since the middle of the nineteenth century.  Baron Nikola Vranyczany-Dobrinović, a local landlord has established the brewery. Since 2013, it has been a subcategory of the famous brand Heineken, and it officially goes by the name Heineken Hrvatska d.o.o (Karlovačko).

It is a pale lager, and it is known for its clear and fresh taste. It is highly popular among locals and in other countries for a reason: it is based on clean freshwater and local barley. This beer is definitely something you want to tick on your list while visiting the beautiful Dubrovnik fortress, or the Plitvice lakes, or while hopping on a boat to Krka National Park.

This beer is a hidden treasure known only by the true Balkans, just like Croatia itself: very intense but a great choice if you are looking for diversity and excitement!
